The ASUS N53JQ-A1 is very good laptop. It's fast and very sturdy. I haven't explored it much yet but happy with it so far. As reviewed by many others before, the battery life is low (less than 2 hours).
Ordering at Amazon was easy. The shipment came on time as promised and no issues with the shipment.

Excellent bang for the buck. Ridiculously quick. The only issue i had was powering on and off the pc (seemed glitchy) until i upgraded to windows professional, this could've easily been fixed by installing the windows updates for Windows 7 Home. I would definitely recommend this PC for the developer on the go.

We bought this laptop for my daughter, who is a graphic arts major. We specifically got the i7 quad core to run the Adobe CS5 Suite, which is very demanding. Out of the box and running nothing except Photoshop, this machine did not perform as well as her 4 year old HP Pavilion dv6000. Last night we ran PassMark's Performance Test on it and the results were below even a Pentium 4. Another possible problem could be with the charger on the system board or the battery. The first time the battery was charged everything seemed fine, but when it was charging a second time, it stopped about 75% into the charge and said that the laptop was connected to AC but not charging. (This same thing happened with my HP Pavilion dv3000. I ignored it and it is now to the point that my battery is totally dead and no way to charge it.) One more issue with this notebook is that the volume controls along the top of the keyboard do not work. Aside from that and the charging issue and the performance problem, this computer is really nice. The aesthetics are particularly pleasing with the brushed aluminum and the slim lines. The size of the display looks bigger than it really is due to the wide-screen design. The audio is better than most notebooks; it doesn't need to be turned to max to hear the dialog when watching a movie (although we do need to do that from the system tray, since the dedicated audio buttons don't work). But as important to my daughter as the look of her notebook needs to be, more importantly is the performance, and this one just didn't come close. It scored a 676, which is too far below the 3,597 that this machine is supposed to be capable of.
We're expecting the replacement for this tomorrow. Hopefully, the new one will have none of the issues or disappointments that this first one had.
